Run SEO Audits on Your Real Search Console Data With Open SEO MCP Skills

Eight MIT-licensed skills wire Claude to your own Search Console, GA4, and ads data through a free connector, so audits and rank tracking run on real numbers instead of estimates.

Most open-source SEO tools are a UI over a paid SERP API: the code is free, the data never is. This repo takes the opposite approach. Your rankings come from your actual Google Search Console, your traffic from your actual GA4, and the skills and the connector are both free.

Why This Skill Matters

The repo ships eight skills that cover the audit-to-content loop — your connected accounts where Google has the data, DataForSEO built in where it doesn't:

SkillWhat it doesData source
seo-auditFull site audit: indexation, CTR anomalies, decaying pages, quick winsGSC + GA4
keyword-researchSeed → ideas → volume/CPC/intent → clustered keyword planGoogle Ads + DataForSEO
rank-trackingPosition movers between any two periods, no tracker subscriptionGSC
competitor-gapKeywords a competitor ranks for that you don'tDataForSEO + GSC
backlink-checkBacklink profile + referring domains vs a competitorDataForSEO
ai-visibilityWhich AI engines send you traffic and which pages they citeGA4 AI-referral reports
content-briefSERP-driven brief: headings, entities, questions, internal linksDataForSEO + GSC
seo-vs-adsQueries you pay for that you already rank for organicallyGSC × Google Ads

Keyword volumes come from Google Ads keyword planner data; Ahrefs and Semrush are also connectable if you already pay for them.

Installation

Three commands in Claude Code:

claude mcp add ryze --transport http https://connector.get-ryze.ai/mcp
claude plugin marketplace add Ryze-AI-Adgent/open-seo-mcp-skills
claude plugin install open-seo-mcp-skills@ryze

The plugin bundles the connector, so the first line is optional in Claude Code. In claude.ai or Claude Desktop, add the same URL as a custom connector (Settings → Connectors), sign in, and connect your Search Console, GA4, and ads accounts once. The README says the setup also works in Cursor and ChatGPT, and the skills are Markdown, so they can be pasted into any client. Prefer a manual copy?

git clone https://github.com/Ryze-AI-Adgent/open-seo-mcp-skills && cp -r open-seo-mcp-skills/skills/* ~/.claude/skills/

Real Workflow: Audit a Site You Own

  1. Connect your properties to the Ryze workspace — this is the one-time step that makes the data real.
  2. Ask: run an SEO audit on mysite.com. The seo-audit skill reads GSC and GA4 and reports indexation, CTR anomalies, decaying pages, and quick wins.
  3. Follow up with the README's own examples: what keywords does competitor.com rank for that I don't (competitor-gap), or how much am I paying for clicks I'd get free (seo-vs-ads)?
  4. Check your AI-engine traffic with ai-visibility — it reads GA4 AI-referral reports covering ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, and Gemini, and reports which pages they cite.

Tips

  • The skills are MIT and the connector is free to add; data flows through your own connected accounts, with no per-call markup per the README.
  • Tool names are namespaced provider__tool (for example google_search_console__runRawSearchAnalytics). When a request shape is unclear, the README points at native__get_provider_docs — call it with the provider's name and it returns the official API docs.
  • Tool availability varies by workspace; every skill states its fallback.
  • The ai-visibility skill reads GA4 AI-referral traffic; the Ryze workspace also tracks brand mentions in AI answers, per the README.
  • Rankings here are your real GSC positions, not estimates — which is also why the GSC-based skills only see properties you can connect.

When Not to Use This

You need data for a site you do not own: rank tracking and audits run on your own Search Console and GA4, so a competitor's positions are out of reach — competitor-gap works because competitor keywords come from DataForSEO instead. And if a hosted connector in the data path is a dealbreaker, note that even the manual copy of the skills routes data through the Ryze connector; this README documents no fully self-hosted data plane.
