Best Claude Skills
The best Claude skills, ranked by whether they actually work — not just by stars. Star counts measure who showed up; this list weights whether the install command still runs, whether the repo is maintained, and whether the skill does a concrete job better than a prompt could. Every pick links to a detail page with the install command, real example outputs, and when not to use it. If you'd rather browse the whole index by category, that's on Claude skills.
How we picked these
Ranking the "best" of anything invites gaming, so the criteria are on the page:
- Works today. The install command is verified against the repo. Skills whose READMEs promise a workflow that no longer installs get dropped.
- Maintained. Recent commits, answered issues, and releases — weighted more heavily than raw stars.
- A specific job. Listed skills produce something concrete: slides, screenshots, review comments, videos. General assistant personas don't rank.
- Good SKILL.md hygiene. Descriptions written as triggers, bodies sized for progressive disclosure, references split out.
- Honest scope. Skills that say what they can't do rank above skills that claim everything.
The shortlists below are organized by job rather than one flat top-20, because "best" depends on what you're installing it for.
The foundation
Start here regardless of what you're building.
- skills183,559 stars
The repo splits into two tiers. The headline skills are the document generators: docx, xlsx, pptx, and pdf — the same skills that power Claude's file outputs in the product. read the review
- skills36,429 stars
The core command is `npx skills add owner/repo`: it resolves the GitHub repo, finds the skill folders inside it, and copies them into your agent's skills directory — `~/.claude/skills/`, `.claude/skills/` for project scope, or the equivalent for other runtimes. It detects which agents you have installed and can write to several at once, so one command makes a skill available in Claude Code and Codex simultaneously. read the review
- awesome-claude-skills77,862 stars
The list organizes skills by job: development and code review, document and slide generation, research and data work, marketing and SEO, productivity and knowledge management. Each entry is a name, a one-line description, and a link to the repo — the classic awesome-list format applied to skills, maintained by Composio with community pull requests adding new entries as they're published. read the review
Coding & shipping
Day-job engineering work.
- obsidian-skills50,034 stars
The collection is deliberately narrow — six skills, each tied to a real Obsidian surface. `obsidian-markdown` teaches the agent Obsidian Flavored Markdown: wikilinks, embeds, callouts, and properties, so the notes it writes parse correctly inside the app. read the review
- skills5,641 stars
Remotion renders React components into video: compositions, scenes, animations, transitions — all expressed in code. The skills in this repo teach the agent the framework's conventions: how to structure a Composition, drive animation with spring and interpolate, sync captions to audio, parameterize videos so one codebase renders many outputs, and run the render pipeline. read the review
- skills3,009 stars
These are official skills from the Expo team, organized so the free/paid boundary is explicit. `expo-overview` is the entry point — it loads first for any Expo task and routes to the right skill. read the review
- SkillOpt18,667 stars
Most skills are written once, by hand, and never measured again. SkillOpt treats the skill document itself as the trainable state of a frozen model: it runs the skill against a task set (rollouts), scores the outputs, has a separate optimizer model propose bounded edits — add, delete, replace — and accepts a candidate only when it strictly improves a held-out validation score. read the review
- stitch-skills8,578 stars
Stitch is Google Labs' AI-powered UI design tool — describe a screen, get a generated interface with real layout, theming, and components. The skills in this repo teach Claude Code to work with that surface: generating designs through Stitch, reading design structure back into the codebase, and handling the conversion work between a generated UI and production components. read the review
Writing, research & decks
Documents and synthesis.
- guizang-ppt-skill28,593 stars
The output is a single self-contained HTML file: a horizontal swipe deck you open in any browser — no build step, no server, nothing to install on the presenting machine. Keyboard arrows, scroll, touch, and a dot navigation all work, and a speaker mode adds a dual-window presenter view with notes, a rehearsal timer, auto-advance, a laser pointer, and live annotations. read the review
- scientific-agent-skills54,465 stars
The skills address the stages of agent-assisted research: finding sources (literature search, web crawling with citation capture), synthesizing them (grounded summaries that keep claims attached to their source), analyzing data (structured analysis workflows rather than ad-hoc pandas), and producing deliverables (annotated bibliographies, synthesis docs, reproducible analysis outputs). read the review
- Agent-Skills-for-Context-Engineering18,207 stars
Context engineering is the discipline of deciding what deserves space in the model's window: which files to load, which tool outputs to keep, when to summarize instead of retain, and what the agent should re-derive rather than remember. The repo packages that discipline as skills — instructions the agent follows when doing context-heavy work rather than settings you configure. read the review
- prompt-master15,012 stars
The skill encodes prompt-engineering practice as instructions the agent applies: decomposing vague requests into explicit requirements, adding constraints where ambiguity lives, specifying output formats concretely, and structuring prompts with the sections that matter (role, task, constraints, format, examples). It's the discipline behind 'write a better prompt' turned into a repeatable procedure. read the review
Business & growth
SEO, finance, product, and app-store work.
- seo-geo-claude-skills96 stars
This repo no longer hosts the skills themselves — it's a signpost. The 16 SEO/GEO skills now live inside the author's umbrella bundle `aaron-he-zhu/aaron-marketing-skills`, which groups 120 skills across 7 disciplines behind one shared contract. read the review
- Awesome-finance-skills3,084 stars
The collection is organized around the alphaear-* family, each covering one stage of an analyst workflow. `alphaear-news` aggregates real-time financial news from ten-plus sources including Cailian Press, the Wall Street Journal, Weibo, and Polymarket prediction data. read the review
- pm-skills27,356 stars
This is less a skill collection than an operating system: 69 skills and 42 chained workflows across 9 plugins, each plugin covering a PM domain — product discovery, strategy, market research, data analytics, marketing growth, go-to-market, execution, AI shipping, and a core toolkit. The frameworks are named and proven: Teresa Torres' Opportunity Solution Trees, Alberto Savoia's pretotype experiments, assumption mapping across value/usability/viability/feasibility, North Star metrics. read the review
- claude-skill-aso-appstore-screenshots1,797 stars
App store screenshots are a constrained design problem: exact pixel dimensions per device class, a caption or headline per frame, consistent branding across a set, and per-locale variants if you localize. The skill encodes all of it — you hand it raw app screenshots and it produces a store-ready set: device frames, headline text, correct dimensions, per-store variants. read the review
- designer-skills3,079 stars
The skills in this repo approach design as teachable judgment: spacing and hierarchy rules, color and type-pairing conventions, the visual-audit checklist a designer runs before shipping. Some skills generate deliverables (UI polish passes, design reviews, token extraction); others encode the critique criteria the agent applies to existing work. read the review
- antigravity-awesome-skills42,570 stars
The repo is an awesome list — a curated index of skills organized by category, each entry a name, description, and link to the source repo. What distinguishes it from other catalogs is the Antigravity lens: skills are selected for how they fit agent-IDE workflows (code generation, multi-file edits, agent-managed tasks) rather than the broader 'anything with SKILL.md' sweep. read the review
- SkillSpector21,384 stars
Skills are instructions an agent will follow — which makes a malicious or careless SKILL.md a direct line into your agent's behavior. SkillSpector's analysis targets the actual risk classes: prompt-injection patterns (instructions telling the agent to ignore user intent or leak context), filesystem access beyond what the description admits, network calls and exfiltration vectors, privilege escalation (asking for permissions the job doesn't need), and the subtler case of instructions that exfiltrate via output rather than code. read the review
- codex-skills1,039 stars
The repo is really four bundles in one. The orchestration set covers planning (`planner`, `plan-harder`), parallel execution (`parallel-task`), and multi-model deliberation (`llm-council`, which asks several model planners to propose independent plans and then has a judge synthesize the best one). read the review

Frequently asked questions
- Are these the most-starred Claude skills?
- No — stars are one input. We weight whether the skill still works, whether the repo is maintained, and whether people actually use it. A famous but stale skill ranks below a younger one with a healthy install command and recent commits.
- Can I pay to be listed?
- No. Rankings come from the methodology on this page and there are no paid placements. If a skill belongs here it gets in on the criteria alone.
- How often is the ranking updated?
- Skill data refreshes from GitHub daily, and the editorial ordering is revisited when upstream repos ship, stall, or get superseded — roughly monthly for the list itself.
- What's the difference between a skill and a plugin?
- A skill is a folder of instructions (SKILL.md) that teaches an agent one job. A plugin is a packaging unit that can bundle skills with hooks, MCP servers, and commands. Most entries here are skills; some ship inside plugin marketplaces.
