Privacy Policy
How SkillMap collects and uses visitor data.
Last updated: September 13, 2026
Overview
This policy explains what visitor data SkillMap collects, why, and the choices you have. The short version: we run analytics to understand which skills, tutorials, and news are useful; we do not sell data and we do not run advertising.
What we collect
SkillMap uses two analytics providers. Neither is used to identify you personally, and the Google Analytics side only writes cookies after the consent rules below are satisfied.
- Google Analytics 4 — sets first-party cookies (_ga, _ga_*) to distinguish visitors and sessions. Cookies are only written when consent is granted.
- Vercel Analytics — cookieless, aggregate page-view counts. It stores no identifiers in your browser.
Consent and your region
If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, analytics storage is denied by default: nothing is written until you press Accept on the consent banner.
For visitors elsewhere, analytics is on by default and the banner lets you decline at any time. Your choice is remembered on this device, and you can change or withdraw it at any time from this page.
How we use the data
Analytics data is used only to improve SkillMap: which tutorials and skills people read, which language they browse in, and which sites bring visitors here.
SkillMap does not currently serve ads or share analytics data with advertising products. If that ever changes, this policy will be updated first, and visitors in consent-required regions will be asked again before any advertising cookie is set.
Data retention and processors
GA4 event data is retained according to its retention setting (at most 14 months). Vercel Analytics keeps only short-lived aggregates.
Data is processed by Google LLC (Google Analytics 4) and Vercel Corp. (hosting and cookieless analytics). These providers may process data outside your country of residence.
Your rights and contact
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete data about you. The reset button below withdraws your stored consent choice and brings the banner back on your next page load; you can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time.
Questions about this policy or your data can be raised via the SkillMap GitHub repository.
