Make Short Films Entirely in Code With the lemo-opuscar Skill

lemo-opuscar turns your coding agent into a one-agent animation studio: 51 film styles, frame-by-frame rendering in canvas and WebGL, original scores, and TTS narration — no video model, no stock footage.

You want a 45-second animated short — a story, a look, a score, a voice — without opening an editor or touching a video-generation model. lemo-opuscar, a 4k-star skill from Lemomo, hands the whole production to your coding agent: it reads three directing guides, then writes every frame, note, and cut as code.

Why This Skill Matters

Video-generation tools give you clips you cannot steer precisely; lemo-opuscar takes the opposite road. Every film is directed, drawn, scored, and mixed by the agent writing code — canvas and WebGL pages rendered frame by frame, original music from free sample libraries, and text-to-speech narration. No video generation, no stock footage, as the README states plainly.

The library ships 51 styles across ten groups: Evidence Films, Hand-drawn & Painting, East Asian Traditions, Print & Printmaking, Graphic & Type, Information & Keynote, Cartoon & Anime, Games, Cinema & Eras, and Materials & 3D — eight styles in Evidence Films alone, each with its own demo film made the same way. One caveat the README leads with: the styles are tuned for Claude Opus 5.5, and other models may not reproduce them well.

Installation

Install it as a Claude Code plugin:

claude plugin marketplace add lemomo-ai/lemo-opuscar
claude plugin install lemo-opuscar@lemolab

On first use it downloads the guides, tools, and style prompts to ~/lemo-opuscar, shared by all your films; each film's project lands in the folder you started from. For other agents, copy the plugin/skills/lemo-opuscar/ folder into their skills directory.

Before you start, you need Node 20+, ffmpeg, and Python 3.11+ (or uv) — the agent installs the rest. Budget real resources: the README puts a film at about 30–60 minutes of agent time and a fair amount of tokens, with a default output of 1920×1080 at 24 fps.

Real Workflow: A Watercolor Film About Your Family Coffee Farm

From any folder, tell the agent:

用 watercolor 风格做一部 45 秒的短片,讲我家经营的咖啡农场。用温暖的女声旁白。

The skill asks you once, up front, about anything it cannot decide: open questions on your topic, whether you have your own voice, music, or other material, and whether you want a storyboard first. Say yes to the storyboard and it stops once to show you the key shots in the real style; otherwise it goes straight to the finished film.

While it works, the agent reads three guides: DIRECTOR.md for story, sound, rhythm, camera, and self-checks; TECHNIQUE.md for frame-by-frame rendering, voice, music, and mixing; and the STYLE.md of your chosen style for what it looks and sounds like. You can name a style in English or Chinese — the style index lists all of them.

If the result is close but not quite yours, adapt the style itself: say you want to change, for example, the Ukiyo-e style into your own version. It explains what is safe to change, what changes the style's character, and what would make it a different style; once you name and approve your version, it writes it to ~/lemo-my-styles/<name>/ and produces a 15–30 second test film showing every change. Library updates never touch your own styles.

Tips

  • For fact-driven topics, pick one of the eight Evidence Films styles — added on 2026-10-16, they film real material where, per the README, every number is measured or sourced.
  • Name the style explicitly in your prompt; both languages work for style names.
  • The storyboard step is your cheapest checkpoint — use it before spending a full 30–60 minute run.
  • Updating is two commands (claude plugin marketplace update lemolab && claude plugin update lemo-opuscar@lemolab); the library in ~/lemo-opuscar updates itself on the next film.
  • Licensing is generous and layered: code and docs are MIT, the demo films are CC BY 4.0 with credit, and films you make are yours with no credit needed.

When Not to Use This

The README scopes the styles to Claude Opus 5.5 — on other models, treat every style as unverified. And when you need photorealistic footage of the real world rather than a stylized, drawn look, a video-generation model is the better tool; this library makes authored animation, not synthetic cinematography.
