Turn Agent Output into Print-Ready Documents with Kami
Kami gives your agent layout rules and eight document templates, so reports, resumes, and slide decks come out as designed PDF, PNG, or PowerPoint files instead of the default gray doc look.
Ask your agent for a research report or a resume and you get the same default-doc look every time: gray, flat, a different layout each session. Kami — a 12k-star skill from tw93 — gives the agent a fixed design system instead: parchment background, ink-blue accents, serif type, and eight document templates that render to PDF, PNG, or editable PowerPoint.
Why This Skill Matters
Kami (紙, Japanese for "paper") fixes the delivery half of agent work. The repo positions it as the third piece of a trilogy: Kaku writes code, Waza drills engineering habits, and Kami ships documents. Where a plain chat answer ends at text, Kami applies layout rules — type sizes, spacing, palette — and checks the result before handing it over.
The templates cover the documents people actually ship: One-Pager, Long Doc, Letter, Portfolio, Resume, Slides, Equity Report, and Changelog, plus a Landing Page system. Each template ships in EN, CN, and KO variants, and Kami picks the right one based on the language you write in. Eighteen inline SVG diagram types are built in, and Mermaid text can drive sequence, class, and ER diagrams.
Installation
Install for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and other agents with one command:
npx skills add tw93/kami -a claude-code codex cursor -g -y
One copy lands in ~/.agents/skills, the shared skills directory. Claude Code is symlinked in, and Codex, Cursor, and other agents that read that directory pick Kami up as /kami. Update later with npx skills update -g -y.
If you prefer the host's own plugin flow, Kami is also namespaced as /kami:kami (Claude Code v2.1.142 or newer):
# Claude Code (update: claude plugin update kami)
/plugin marketplace add tw93/kami
/plugin install kami@kami
# Codex (update: codex plugin marketplace upgrade kami, then codex plugin add kami@kami)
codex plugin marketplace add tw93/kami
codex plugin add kami@kami
For Claude Desktop, download the kami.zip release asset — the README says to use the release ZIP, not GitHub's source ZIP — then upload it under Customize > Skills. On Windows, run Kami inside WSL: the helper scripts are Bash, and WeasyPrint on native Windows also needs the GTK/Pango runtime installed separately.
Real Workflow: A Print-Ready One-Pager from a Draft
- Install the skill and start a new session.
- Paste your content with a natural request — the skill auto-triggers, no slash command needed:
用 Kami 把这份产品介绍整理成一份一页纸,受众是第一次接触我们的客户,
重点保留使用场景和三个核心卖点,输出 PDF 和 PNG 两个版本。
- Kami picks the One-Pager template and a structured brief records the audience and requirements. Content schemas check the structure before layout runs, and coverage checks look for content missing from the filled page.
- Review the output — page images support a final visual check, so ask the agent to show them if it does not offer.
For slide decks, the same flow renders WeasyPrint HTML to PDF by default; ask for editable PPTX and Kami uses python-pptx, or ask for a Marp deck when you want Markdown-first slides. If you keep producing documents, set up the optional brand profile: create ~/.config/kami/brand.md with YAML frontmatter (name, role, email, brand color, language, page size, tone) and a Markdown body for freeform notes, and Kami applies those settings wherever your request leaves a choice open — your explicit instructions always win.
Tips
- Home or office printing? Ask for the opt-in white-paper variant, which flips the parchment background to white while keeping the warm palette in cards and tables.
- Diagrams from Mermaid text work for sequence, class, and ER; the renderer re-themes the SVG to the Kami palette automatically.
- Code blocks get Pygments highlighting when Pygments is installed; without it, PDFs still render and code stays monochrome.
- Chinese output defaults to TsangerJinKai02, which is free for personal use only — commercial use needs a license from tsanger.cn.
- Kami runs a quiet version check at most once a day and uploads no document or task content; it fails silently when offline.
When Not to Use This
Kami renders documents; it does not analyze data or replace a BI tool — bring the finished numbers first. Native Windows outside WSL is not supported. And if your brand demands exact proprietary fonts the templates do not ship, expect to adjust the theme rather than get that out of the box.
