CodexSkillManager: Manage Codex and Claude Code Skills from a Native macOS App
A 1,371-star SwiftUI app that browses skills from ~/.codex and ~/.claude in one sidebar, renders every SKILL.md, and downloads remote skills from Clawdhub.
Skills for Codex and Claude Code live in hidden directories, and once you collect more than a handful, ls ~/.codex/skills stops being a management strategy. CodexSkillManager is a native macOS SwiftUI app that puts both agents' skills behind one sidebar, renders each SKILL.md, and lets you install remote skills without opening a terminal.
Why This Skill Matters
The 1,371-star app browses three directories at once — ~/.codex/skills, ~/.codex/skills/public, and ~/.claude/skills — so you can see everything installed for Codex and Claude Code in a single window. Each skill's SKILL.md renders as Markdown with inline reference previews, and visual tags show which agent a skill is installed in plus its version.
The second half is discovery: the app browses the Clawdhub skill registry with search and a latest-drops feed, shows author info in the detail view, and downloads a remote skill into Codex and/or Claude Code directly. Compare that with the usual loop of finding a repo on GitHub, cloning it, and copying folders by hand.
Installation
The README documents only a source build with SwiftPM — the project has no Xcode project file — and it requires macOS 26+ and Swift 6.2+. Clone the repository first, then use its build commands:
git clone https://github.com/Dimillian/CodexSkillManager.git
cd CodexSkillManager
swift run CodexSkillManager
To package it as a local app instead of a debug run, use the bundled script:
./Scripts/compile_and_run.sh
Real Workflow: Audit What Is Installed, Then Add One Skill to Both Agents
-
Launch the app. The sidebar lists every skill found in
~/.codex/skills,~/.codex/skills/public, and~/.claude/skills, with installed-status tags showing which agent each one belongs to. -
Click through the ones you do not recognize. The detail view renders the full
SKILL.md, so you can read what a skill actually does — and spot duplicates you installed months ago — before deciding. Skills you no longer want can be deleted from the sidebar. -
Switch to the Clawdhub view and either search or browse the latest drops. The detail view shows the author's Clawdhub info.
-
Download the skill into Codex, Claude Code, or both. The visual installed-status tags then show which agent the skill belongs to — no manual
cpinto dotfolders. -
Have a skill as a folder or zip file already? Import it from the same interface.
Tips
- The repo is built by Dimillian, whose curated
dimillian/skillspack for Apple platforms is already on this site — see the dimillian-skills tutorial. The manager app works with any skills, not just that pack. - Markdown rendering comes from swift-markdown-ui, so rendering matches what a Markdown viewer shows rather than a plain text dump.
- The app reads skills from the dotfolders in your home directory, not from its own source tree, so rebuilding it never touches your installed skills.
When Not to Use This
It is macOS-only and requires macOS 26+, so Linux and Windows machines are out. If you manage skills inside scripts or CI, an interactive GUI is the wrong shape — a CLI installer like npx skills add fits automation better. And if you never browse skills outside one agent's directory, the single-agent tooling you already have does the job with less surface area.
